Nursery | Assessment for learning takes place throughout the day through direct work and observations. Children’s levels are monitored three times a year, with baseline in October, and 2 other data drops in February and July. | |
Reception | Within six weeks of starting school, children participate in the Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA). This is a short, interactive and practical assessment of each child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematical skills. At the end of the year, the school reports externally whether each child has achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’ (GLD). This is based on the 17 strands of learning through Development Matters. In the Autumn term all Reception pupils are assessed by LanguageScreen to identify gaps in Receptive and Expressive Language. Year 1 | In June the children take the statutory phonics screening check. Parents are notified if their child has passed the phonics check in their school report in July. | Assessment for learning takes place in every lesson through discussion, dialogue, quizzes and recorded work in relation to learning intentions. Year 2 | Key Stage One (Non-statutory) SATs are used. Children sit reading and maths tests. Teacher assessment for each child in Reading, Writing and Maths is submitted at the end of the year. Parents are informed of the outcome on their child’s school report. For pupil’s who failed the phonics screening check in Year 1, the phonics check is retaken in June. Foundation Subject Assessment:
The focus of this is pupil to teacher feedback
Whole Class Assessment is used where:
- After each enquiry whole class discussion of assessment questions takes place. Learn partners are used to discuss and feedback to teacher.
- Assessment questions are asked that include key skills, knowledge and vocabulary for that subject.
- The teacher makes a note of next steps for learning.
- Year group teachers meet with co-ordinator to feedback from whole class discussion. The co-ordinator shares one to one feedback and planning is adapted as appropriate.
One to One is used where:
After an enquiry the Co-ordinator will discuss assessment questions individually with three pupils from the year group. Different children will be chosen for each enquiry. The Co-ordinator will complete next steps for learning to discuss at year group-meeting.
