At Village Infants School we believe that speaking and listening are central to teaching and learning in all areas of the curriculum. Teachers ensure that their teaching develops pupils’ oral vocabulary as well as their ability to understand and use a variety of grammatical structures. Pupils will be encouraged to speak audibly, with an increasing command of Standard English, in full sentences. Adults will provide pupils with the language they need by modelling talk with other adults and take every opportunity to increase pupil’s vocabulary.
